Get Bold with Your Natural Hair Using Unique Cut & Color

Over the course of my styling career, I’ve learned that natural hair is more than just wearing your hair naturally; the journey demands for you to embrace a whole new way of thinking. Are you thinking inside or outside the box? Today, I want to inspire you to learn hairstyling tips from other cultures when finding your signature brand.

During my recent Bikram Yoga class, the instructor said, “Don’t criticize how well you did the pose. Just enjoy the very second you are in now. Let yourself relax and let yourself breath.” I believe the self-realization concept is applicable for natural hair enthusiasts too.  This summer, decide to breathe new life into your hair care regimen.

COLOR

Looking for a bold natural hair statement? Color is your friend! As a natural hair care stylist, I am always intrigued by a great touch of color. Color will add intense effects to hair. The Hamer women from Ethiopia pictured here use ochre (a natural earth pigment containing hydrated iron oxide) to color their elegant locs.

If you hair is long, you can try a neat updo accented with dramatic color. Is your hair locked? There are so many color techniques that will add dimension and enhance your hair texture. Color is available for all hair types and textures. However If your hair is fragile or color sensitive, you have options too.

I am a stylist who enjoys continuing education classes. During the course of my ongoing learning, I have been enlightened and motivated by several African natural hair practices. My first culturally inspired interest is with the henna plant. In my salon, I recommend henna color for clients who have proven to be challenged by chemical hair coloring products.

Henna is a flowering plant. When the henna leaf is grounded, processed into a paste and added to hair, it will add beautiful color vibrancy; it’s a fabulous natural alternative to synthetic dyes. Although Henna is easy to apply, I strongly recommend you to seek out a stylist who offers the service.

CUT
As a licensed barber, I am fascinated by eye-catching haircuts. I never allow my clients to say to me, “I can’t do anything with my hair.” Or, “My hair is too short or boring.” In my salon, I always challenge back: What are you willing to try? Your styling options are only limited by your imagination!

If you choose a low cut, then you can enhance the cut with a splash of color and protect it with amazing hair butters. Try opting for round cut layers, a hint of color, or carefully defined curls; just to name a few.

Don’t be afraid to cut your natural hair into bold designs. Experiment with hairstyling ideas from other cultures when finding your signature hair style. Taking a broader approach to hair styling will take your natural hair care regimen to another level.

I encourage you to embrace cultural variety and dare to be different. Be you!
